Troops of Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke have disrupted a suspected bandit operation along the Gbise-Igyudu Road in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.
The troops were conducting a routine fighting patrol on September 2 when they encountered two suspected bandits on a motorcycle and engaged them in an exchange of fire.
According to the Force, one of the suspects was killed during the encounter, while the second fled the scene.
The troops subsequently carried out a search and clearance operation around the area to prevent the fleeing suspect from posing a threat to nearby communities.
Items recovered include a pistol, pistol magazine, AK-47 magazine, eight rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition and other ammunition. A mobile phone and assorted charms were also recovered.
Operation Whirl Stroke urged residents to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with timely and credible information on the activities and movements of suspected criminals.
The Force says it will continue sustained patrols and intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and protecting communities within its operational areas.
