The Plateau State Police Command says it has disrupted the activities of suspected bandits and recovered a General Purpose Machine Gun and an AK-47 rifle in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.
The operation was carried out by personnel of the 81 Police Mobile Force following intelligence on the activities of suspected bandits around Kafi Abu.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, says the operatives moved into the area on Friday night to confront the suspects.
The suspected bandits reportedly fled into the surrounding forest after sighting the police, abandoning the weapons in their possession.
A search of the area led to the recovery of a General Purpose Machine Gun and an AK-47 rifle.
Following the operation, Plateau State Commissioner of Police, CP Ayodeji Faniyan, ordered the deployment of additional personnel to the area as efforts continue to track and arrest the fleeing suspects.
The Command says investigations have commenced and assured residents that intelligence-led operations will be sustained to protect lives and property across the state.
Faniyan also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and activities to the police.
