The Argentine football league will pay tribute to Lionel Messi following his retirement from international football by pausing all matches in the 10th minute this weekend for a minute of applause.
The 39-year-old, who wore the number 10 shirt for Argentina, announced his retirement from international football on Monday.
Messi’s final appearance for Argentina came in the 2026 World Cup final defeat to Spain in July.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner captained Argentina to World Cup glory in Qatar in 2022 and also won two Copa America titles with the national team.
Messi, who previously retired from international football in 2016 before reversing his decision, ends his international career as Argentina’s record appearance holder with 207 caps.
