Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has urged young people in the state to take advantage of available opportunities, acquire relevant skills and build sustainable enterprises.
Oyebanji gave the charge at the 2026 International Youth Day Summit organised by the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, in Ado Ekiti.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Gold Adedayo, the governor said his administration has prioritised youth development through entrepreneurship, skills acquisition, digital innovation, agriculture and sports.
He said the creation of a dedicated Ministry of Youth Development demonstrates the government’s commitment to addressing the aspirations and challenges of young people.
Oyebanji also highlighted interventions including financial support, skills training, enterprise development and technology platforms aimed at empowering youths across the state.
He cautioned young people against pursuing quick wealth through shortcuts, stressing that sustainable success requires discipline, hard work, patience and continuous self-development.
Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Adeoye Aribasoye, also urged youths to take ownership of the present by developing competence in digital skills, entrepreneurship, agriculture, renewable energy and emerging technologies.
Earlier, the state Chairman of the NYCN, Segun Bankole, described the summit as an opportunity for young people to exchange ideas, build networks and explore practical ways of contributing to Ekiti State’s development.
