Oyebanji to Honour Abacha, Afe Babalola, Olanipekun with Legacy Projects

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has announced plans to immortalise prominent personalities, including the Founder of Afe Babalola University, Aare Afe Babalola (SAN), former Nigerian Bar Association President Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), and the late former Head of State, General Sani Abacha, through legacy projects across the state.

The governor made the announcement during the commissioning of the Ayodele Fayose Lodge at the Government House in Ado Ekiti, named in honour of former Governor Ayodele Fayose.

Oyebanji said the initiative is aimed at recognising individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of Ekiti State. He also disclosed that former Governor Segun Oni would be the next beneficiary of the state’s legacy project initiative.

The governor said General Abacha deserves recognition for creating Ekiti State on October 1, 1996, adding that a befitting project would be named after the late military leader before the end of his administration.

He also commended President Bola Tinubu for supporting Ekiti State through federal appointments, increased allocations and infrastructure projects, urging residents to reciprocate the support during the 2027 presidential election.

Responding, former Governor Ayodele Fayose thanked Oyebanji for promoting unity across political divides and praised his inclusive style of governance. Fayose also pledged to use his position as Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency to expand electricity access to rural communities in Ekiti State and across Nigeria.
