President Bola Tinubu has paid tribute to the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, as he marks 20 years on the throne.
In a statement, the President said the Sultan had not only preserved the heritage of the Sokoto Caliphate but had also enriched it, making it a formidable instrument for peace, unity and national development.
Tinubu described the Sultan as a moral authority, a bridge between faiths and a voice of moderation.
The President noted that in his roles as President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and Co-Chairman of the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council, the Sultan had consistently promoted religious harmony and tolerance, helping Christians and Muslims find common ground.
Tinubu also highlighted the Sultan’s advocacy for peace in Northern Nigeria and the Sahel, his commitment to education, particularly for the girl-child, and his support for farmers, public health and vulnerable communities.
