Nigeria and Ghana are taking steps to prevent a private commercial dispute from affecting the longstanding diplomatic relationship between the two countries.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed, met with Ghana’s Acting High Commissioner, Dr. Gladys Mansa Yawa Feddy Akyea, in Abuja to discuss concerns surrounding the ownership dispute over River Park Estate in Lugbe involving a Ghanaian investor and a Nigerian business partner.
During the meeting, the Ghanaian envoy called for continued diplomatic engagement to ensure the disagreement does not escalate into an issue capable of straining relations between both countries. She also urged the protection of Ghanaian nationals, investments and property interests while legal proceedings continue.
In response, Ambassador Ahmed reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to its longstanding relationship with Ghana and assured the delegation that the concerns raised would be reviewed and discussed with relevant institutions through appropriate diplomatic channels.
He maintained that the matter remains a commercial and legal dispute, while reiterating Nigeria’s commitment to the rule of law and the protection of legitimate investments.
The development underscores the need for African countries to balance the protection of national interests with maintaining investor confidence and strong regional partnerships.
