Nigeria, Liberia Strengthen Partnership On Trade, Investment And Youth Development

Nigeria and Liberia have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, with renewed emphasis on trade, investment, youth development and regional cooperation.

The commitment was reaffirmed in Abuja when Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Audu-Rafiu Olusola Enikanolaiye, received Liberia’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ethel Davis, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Speaking during the meeting, Ambassador Enikanolaiye described both countries as longstanding partners united by shared history, African solidarity and mutual respect. He recalled Nigeria’s contributions to peace, security and post-conflict recovery in Liberia, noting that the enduring relationship between the two countries continues to be reflected in the cordial ties between their leaders. He added that the engagement created an opportunity to deepen consultations and explore new areas of cooperation that would advance the welfare, prosperity and security of both nations.

In response, Ambassador Davis expressed appreciation for Nigeria’s continued support in peacebuilding, security sector reform, military training and capacity development. She also outlined Liberia’s plans to strengthen economic relations through increased trade and investment, including a proposed Liberian Investment Summit in Lagos aimed at attracting Nigerian investors and businesses.

The Liberian Deputy Foreign Minister identified youth unemployment as a major development challenge and called for stronger collaboration with Nigeria’s private sector to create jobs and expand economic opportunities for young people.

Both countries concluded the meeting by reaffirming their commitment to sustained political consultations, enhanced trade and investment, human capital development, and closer cooperation within ECOWAS and other regional and international organisations.
