United States President Donald Trump has reiterated that Iran will never be allowed to possess nuclear weapons, as negotiations aimed at ending the conflict between both countries move closer to a formal agreement.

Speaking during the G7 Summit in France, Trump said discussions had entered a “second stage,” although he did not provide specific details about the next phase of the negotiations.

The comments come amid growing international attention on efforts to finalise a broader ceasefire agreement between Washington and Tehran.

Pakistan, which has played a central mediating role in the talks, disclosed that both countries are expected to formally sign the agreement in Switzerland on Friday.

While the full details of the proposed deal have not yet been released, preliminary reports suggest it includes an extension of the current ceasefire arrangement for an additional 60 days, allowing both sides to continue discussions on a comprehensive long-term settlement.

Trump maintained that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons remains a key condition of any final agreement.

“Iran will never have a nuclear weapon,” the US president said.

The issue of Iran’s nuclear programme has remained at the centre of tensions between both countries for years. Iran operates several major nuclear facilities, including the Natanz Fuel Enrichment Plant, the Fordow Fuel Enrichment Plant near Qom, and the Arak Heavy Water Reactor, all of which have been the subject of international scrutiny and negotiations.

Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the United Kingdom would play its part in ensuring the continued operation of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route through which a significant portion of the world’s oil supply passes.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most strategic maritime corridors, and any disruption to activities in the waterway could have significant implications for global energy markets and international trade.

Diplomatic efforts are expected to continue in the coming days as negotiators work towards finalising the ceasefire framework and addressing broader issues, including Iran’s nuclear programme and regional security concerns.
