The Nigeria Police Force has paid ₦2.317 billion in insurance and welfare benefits to 2,971 beneficiaries and next of kin of deceased police officers.
Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, presented the cheques at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, saying the payments represent legitimate entitlements of officers who died in the line of duty.
Disu says the beneficiaries covered six insurance policy years between 2017 and 2025, including outstanding balances recovered from insurance companies following earlier partial payments.
The Police Chief acknowledged that the financial benefits cannot replace the lives lost but said they represent the Force’s responsibility to families whose loved ones made sacrifices in service to the country.
He urged beneficiaries to use the funds wisely, particularly for the education and welfare of children and other dependants.
Disu also pledged to continue improving the welfare of police personnel and their families, while calling on insurance companies to ensure the prompt settlement of claims.
