The Senate has dismissed allegations that signatures were forged in the report that recommended the six-month suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, insisting that the process complied with established parliamentary procedures.

Senate spokesperson, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, stated that no senator’s signature was falsified during the preparation of the report and maintained that the upper chamber would review comments made by Senator Adams Oshiomhole on the matter.

His reaction followed claims by Oshiomhole that some lawmakers whose names appeared on the report did not sign the document recommending Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension.

Oshiomhole had reportedly cited Senator Ireti Kingibe as an example, alleging that she informed him she signed only an attendance register and not the committee’s final report.

Responding to the allegation, Adaramodu said no senator had officially raised concerns about forgery or procedural misconduct on the floor of the Senate.

“If Senator Kingibe had any issue with the process, there are established parliamentary channels through which such concerns can be raised,” he said.

The Senate spokesperson stressed that members of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions participated in the proceedings and that there was no case of coercion or falsification of signatures.

“Nobody can claim that he or she was forced to sign any document or that a signature was forged. Such a thing has never happened in the Senate and cannot happen,” Adaramodu said.

He added that the Senate would examine Oshiomhole’s remarks and determine the appropriate response, while reaffirming the institution’s commitment to transparency and due process.

According to him, the proceedings that led to Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension were conducted openly during plenary and were accessible to the public.

Adaramodu maintained that the Senate acted within its rules and procedures in handling the matter, noting that lawmakers had deliberated extensively before reaching a decision.
