Governors of the 19 Northern states have inaugurated the Board of Trustees of the Northern Nigeria Security Trust Fund as part of efforts to strengthen regional collaboration in addressing insecurity across the region.

The initiative is aimed at supporting security agencies through improved funding, intelligence sharing and coordinated interventions against banditry, terrorism, kidnapping and other criminal activities.

The Board was inaugurated during the meeting of the Northern States Governors’ Forum in Kaduna.

Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, described the Trust Fund as a practical platform for mobilising resources to complement the efforts of federal security agencies in restoring peace across the region.

He urged member states to fulfil their financial commitments to the Fund, stressing that sustainable funding is essential to achieving lasting improvements in security.

The Forum also reaffirmed its support for the Federal Government’s security initiatives and ongoing discussions on state policing, while emphasising the need to address the root causes of insecurity through investments in education, agriculture, youth empowerment and economic development.

The governors called on the newly inaugurated Board to uphold transparency, accountability and effective management of resources to deliver measurable results in protecting lives and property.

They further appealed to traditional rulers, community leaders, the private sector and development partners to support the Security Trust Fund, noting that lasting peace and stability require the collective efforts of all stakeholders.
