Stakeholders in the fight against Gender-Based Violence, GBV, in Akwa Ibom State have called for improved data management, stronger coordination and increased funding to strengthen prevention and response efforts.
The call was made at the third-quarter GBV Technical Working Group meeting held at the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare in Uyo.
United Nations Population Fund Coordinator and Focal Person for Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Yakubu Aliyu, says stakeholders must go beyond recording statistics by ensuring that survivors receive appropriate medical, legal and psychosocial support.
Aliyu also stressed the need to bring perpetrators to justice while ensuring that survivors are treated with dignity and humanity.
UNFPA Gender Specialist, Jacque Karungi, called for GBV data from service delivery points to be properly transmitted to the Ministry to support effective planning and decision-making.
The Ministry’s GBV Desk Officer, Etido Edem, identified the absence of a harmonised platform for collecting and reporting GBV data as a major challenge.
He also called for increased government funding to strengthen the response to Gender-Based Violence across Akwa Ibom State.
