RB Leipzig have appointed Martín Demichelis as their new head coach on a contract that will run until June 2028.
The German Bundesliga club announced the appointment following the departure of Ole Werner, who was dismissed last week despite guiding Leipzig to a third-place finish in the league and qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Demichelis becomes the eighth permanent head coach of RB Leipzig since the club secured promotion to the Bundesliga in the 2016–17 season.
The 43-year-old Argentine began his senior managerial career with River Plate, the club where he started his playing career.
During his time with the Argentine giants, Demichelis led River Plate to the league title in the 2022–23 season, earning recognition for his work in developing a competitive and attacking side.
RB Leipzig said the appointment reflects the club’s ambition to remain competitive domestically and in European competitions.
The former Argentina international now faces the task of building on Leipzig’s recent successes as the club prepares for another campaign in the Bundesliga and the UEFA Champions League.
Demichelis is expected to begin work immediately as preparations continue for the 2026–27 season.
The club expressed confidence that his experience as both a player and coach will help drive the team’s sporting objectives in the coming years.
