Manchester City F.C. has confirmed the appointment of Enzo Maresca as the club’s new head coach following the departure of Pep Guardiola.
The Premier League champions announced on Tuesday that Maresca has signed a long-term contract running until June 2029 and will immediately begin preparations for the upcoming season.
Maresca returns to Manchester City after previously serving as part of Guardiola’s coaching staff during the club’s historic treble-winning campaign.
The club is reportedly viewing his appointment as an effort to preserve the tactical philosophy and playing style established under Guardiola during one of the most successful eras in the club’s history.
The 45-year-old Italian manager has earned recognition in European football for his possession-based approach and tactical discipline, qualities City officials considered crucial in identifying Guardiola’s successor.
Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano had earlier reported that an agreement had already been reached between both parties.
Manchester City officials are also expected to involve Maresca in transfer decisions and squad planning ahead of the new campaign as the club begins a new chapter under fresh leadership.
Guardiola leaves the Etihad Stadium after overseeing one of the most dominant managerial periods in modern football, winning multiple Premier League titles, domestic trophies, and the UEFA Champions League.
Maresca now faces the challenge of maintaining Manchester City’s dominance while establishing his own identity at one of Europe’s biggest clubs.
