Nigeria’s national football team will begin their Unity Cup title defense with a semi-final clash against Zimbabwe’s national football team on Tuesday at The Valley Stadium in London.

The Super Eagles, who are defending champions of the four-nation competition, head into the encounter aiming to end a run of draws against Zimbabwe. Both meetings between the two sides during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers ended 1-1, extending Nigeria’s winless streak against the Warriors to three matches.

The tournament’s second semi-final will see India face Jamaica on Wednesday.

Ahead of the fixture, Nigeria coach Eric Chelle supervised training sessions involving 20 players. The Franco-Malian tactician recently released separate squads for the Unity Cup and upcoming international friendlies against Portugal and Poland in June.

Several regular stars are absent from the squad, but the team includes several fresh faces, such as goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, who recently switched international allegiance from England to Nigeria.

Other invited players include defenders Emmanuel Fernandez and Igoh Ogbu, midfielders Raphael Onyedika, Tochukwu Nnadi, and Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, alongside striker Rafiu Durosinmi.

Several players from the Nigeria Premier Football League also earned call-ups, including Michael Atata, Elias Ochobi, Chibueze Oputa, Obinna Igboke, Aderemi Adeoye, Ayobami Junior, and Tosin Oyedokun.

Despite missing some key players, Nigeria heads into the competition with decent form following their third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after losing narrowly to Morocco in the semi-final.

The Super Eagles have also recorded mixed results in recent friendlies, defeating Iran 2-1 before drawing against Jordan.

Zimbabwe, meanwhile, arrives with confidence after back-to-back victories during the March international window, defeating Botswana 3-0 and Zambia Under-23s 1-0 following their group-stage exit at the 2025 AFCON.

Kick-off for the match is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Nigerian time on Tuesday, May 26.

The winner of the encounter will advance to the final to face either India or Jamaica.
