Former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a peace agreement between the United States and Iran aimed at ending more than three months of hostilities between the two countries.

According to the announcement, both sides have agreed to a permanent cessation of military operations, with a formal peace accord expected to be signed on Friday following mediation efforts led by Pakistan.

As part of the agreement, Trump said the United States would remove its naval blockade and allow the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil transit routes.

The reopening of the strategic waterway is expected to ease pressure on global energy markets and improve the flow of oil and related products after months of disruption.

Iranian officials confirmed that an agreement had been reached but indicated that implementation would begin only after the formal signing of the accord.

Pakistani authorities, who helped broker the talks, said both parties had agreed to immediately halt military operations while negotiations continue on outstanding issues, including Iran’s nuclear programme.

The conflict, which began in late February, significantly disrupted regional stability and affected global energy markets, with concerns over shipping and oil exports driving fluctuations in crude oil prices.

Following reports of the breakthrough, global oil prices declined, reflecting expectations that the restoration of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz could improve supply conditions.

Despite the agreement, discussions are expected to continue over key unresolved issues, including Iran’s nuclear activities, regional security concerns, sanctions relief, and broader diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The peace deal is being viewed as a significant step toward reducing tensions in the Middle East after more than 100 days of conflict that drew international concern and affected global economic activity.
