Military veterans have blocked the entrance to the Military Pensions Board office in Kubwa, Abuja, over concerns about the formula adopted for adjusting their pensions.
The retirees barricaded the entrance with canopies and chairs as early as 8 a.m., protesting alleged irregularities in the payment of pensions approved by President Bola Tinubu.
Armed soldiers were deployed to the area and prevented the protesters from gaining access to the premises.
The protest comes weeks after military retirees demonstrated at the Ministry of Defence in September, demanding an increase in their pensions following salary adjustments for serving military personnel.
Coordinator of the Military Veterans Association of Nigeria, retired Lieutenant Colonel Innocent Azubuike, accused the Pensions Board of adopting an adjustment formula that allegedly short-changed some retirees.
Azubuike says the latest protest followed growing dissatisfaction among veterans over the implementation of consequential adjustments to their pensions.
The veterans argue that the formula used in calculating the adjustments does not adequately reflect the salary increases granted to serving military personnel.
They are demanding a review of the pension adjustment process to address their concerns and ensure that affected retirees receive what they consider their appropriate entitlements.
