President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the procurement of additional military hardware to reinforce the capacity of the Armed Forces of Nigeria in the ongoing battle against insurgency and terrorism across the country.
The Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, disclosed the development on Thursday while speaking to journalists after a high-level security briefing with the President.
According to Musa, the meeting allowed the service chiefs to provide Tinubu with a detailed update on military operations and the current security situation nationwide.
He explained that the briefing gave the President direct insight into developments on the ground and the strategies being deployed by the armed forces.
The defence minister noted that some recent media reports have not fully reflected the scale of military operations being carried out against terrorist groups. While acknowledging that attacks had occurred in some parts of the country, he said the armed forces had responded decisively.
Musa revealed that several high-ranking militant commanders had been neutralised during recent operations, while troops also seized weapons and other assets belonging to insurgent groups.
He paid tribute to soldiers who lost their lives in the line of duty, describing their sacrifice as painful but emphasising that the determination of Nigeria’s armed forces remains strong.
“The commitment of our Armed Forces to ensuring the safety and security of Nigerians is unwavering,” he said.
Musa also appealed to Nigerians for patience and continued support, noting that terrorist groups often intensify their activities during the Ramadan period.
He added that military commanders have adjusted operational strategies to counter the trend and expressed confidence that the approval for new equipment, combined with stronger collaboration among security agencies, would help the country overcome terrorism.
“Our agencies are working together and are fully committed to winning this war,” the minister said.
