Lagos Records 6,753 GBV Cases, Prosecutes 116 Offenders in 2025

The Lagos State Government has disclosed that 6,753 cases of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) were reported across the state in 2025, with 116 offenders prosecuted and 2,460 survivors receiving justice through legal and institutional interventions.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Bolaji Dada, revealed this while highlighting the ministry’s achievements over the past year.

According to the commissioner, more than 3,000 survivors benefited from counselling, rehabilitation, and other support services designed to aid recovery and reintegration.

She explained that the ministry strengthened its response to gender-based violence through public awareness campaigns, emergency intervention services, survivor shelters, and strategic partnerships with relevant agencies to combat domestic violence and other forms of abuse.

Dada also outlined the ministry’s poverty alleviation efforts, noting that 5,310 residents graduated from the state’s tuition-free skills acquisition centres during the period under review.

In addition, 5,339 beneficiaries received business tools and equipment under the Micro Enterprise Support Initiative, a programme aimed at promoting financial independence and reducing poverty among vulnerable groups.

The commissioner said beneficiaries were trained in various fields, including vocational trades, digital marketing, agriculture, and entrepreneurship, as part of efforts to create sustainable livelihoods and expand economic opportunities for residents.

She reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to protecting vulnerable groups and empowering residents through targeted social intervention programmes.
