The Federal Government has launched a new data-driven framework aimed at transforming Nigeria’s approach to poverty reduction, social protection and humanitarian response.
The initiative, known as the National Poverty Intelligence Lab and the One Humanitarian, One Poverty Reduction System, is expected to improve coordination, reduce duplication and ensure that interventions are targeted, evidence-based and results-driven.
Speaking at the unveiling of the National Poverty Intelligence Lab in Abuja, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Barnard Doro, said the initiative would help government and development partners identify gaps, track progress and deliver more effective support to vulnerable populations.
The minister explained that the One Humanitarian, One Poverty Reduction System would align humanitarian assistance, social protection, resilience-building and poverty reduction programmes under a single coordinated framework.
He noted that the new system is designed to enhance efficiency, improve accountability and ensure that interventions reach those who need them most.
Also speaking, the Director-General of Innovation for Poverty Action (IPA), Funmi Ayeni, described reliable data as critical to effective programme delivery, stronger accountability and sustainable poverty reduction.
Stakeholders at the event said the National Poverty Intelligence Lab could mark a turning point in Nigeria’s fight against poverty by providing the evidence needed to deliver more targeted interventions and measurable results.
They expressed optimism that the initiative would strengthen decision-making and improve the impact of poverty reduction programmes across the country.
