The National Pension Commission, PenCom, says cumulative Retirement Savings Account registrations increased to 11.18 million at the end of the first quarter of 2026.

PenCom’s first-quarter report shows that 143,248 new accounts were registered during the period, up from 11.04 million accounts recorded at the end of 2025.

The commission attributes the growth to improved digital onboarding and sustained public awareness of the pension scheme.

Despite the increase, active pension membership represents about 12.1 per cent of Nigeria’s estimated 92 million workforce.

PenCom says efforts are continuing to expand pension coverage, particularly among workers in the informal sector.

The report shows that contributors below the age of 40 accounted for 75.31 per cent of new registrations, while women represented 44.08 per cent.

Stanbic IBTC Pension Managers recorded the highest share of new registrations at 17.47 per cent, followed by AccessARM, FCMB Pensions, TangerineAPT and Trustfund Pensions.
