Four newly elected senators have been sworn into the Senate following their victories in recent bye-elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to fill vacant seats in the National Assembly.
The lawmakers took their oaths of office during Wednesday’s plenary, administered by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, after the presentation of their Certificates of Return.
The newly inaugurated senators are Olaka Nwogu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District; Asogwa Ikeje Israel of the All Progressives Congress (APC), representing Enugu North Senatorial District; Danladi Envulu-Anza of the APC, representing Nasarawa North Senatorial District; and Dayo Faduyile of the APC, representing Ondo South Senatorial District.
Speaking after their inauguration, Senate President Godswill Akpabio congratulated the new lawmakers and urged them to contribute meaningfully to legislative debates and national development.
The bye-elections were conducted by INEC to fill vacancies created by the death of serving lawmakers and the resignation of a senator following a diplomatic appointment.
The swearing-in restores full representation for the affected senatorial districts and increases the number of lawmakers in the upper chamber of the National Assembly.
