Half-time during Sunday’s FIFA World Cup final is expected to last between 20 and 25 minutes.
The extended break will accommodate an 11-minute Super Bowl-style entertainment show at New York New Jersey Stadium, co-headlined by Madonna, Shakira and South Korean boy band BTS.
Under the Laws of the Game, set by the International Football Association Board, players are entitled to a half-time interval of no more than 15 minutes.
However, last year’s FIFA Club World Cup final, also held in New Jersey, featured a 24-minute half-time break to allow performances by Coldplay, J Balvin, Doja Cat, Tems and Emmanuel Kelly.
Justin Bieber was added to Sunday’s line-up last week and will perform alongside Burna Boy, Gustavo Dudamel and the PS22 Chorus. The show has been curated by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.
