The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has described Cardinal John Onaiyekan’s criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration as politically motivated.
Speaking on the issue, Wike said he welcomes constructive criticism from religious leaders and elder statesmen but argued that comments from individuals perceived to have taken political sides should be viewed with caution.
According to him, when a religious leader consistently criticises a particular administration, it becomes difficult for the public to regard such remarks as impartial or purely constructive.
Wike said Cardinal Onaiyekan’s position on the Tinubu administration is well known, adding that the cleric’s views reflect partisanship rather than objective engagement.
The FCT Minister also maintained that criticism alone should not define anyone’s contribution to national development, stressing that public discourse should go beyond condemning government actions to include constructive suggestions.
