Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of midfielder Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United for a club-record fee of £85 million.
Spurs have not disclosed the length of contract for the 21-year-old Portugal international, who has earned one senior cap for his country but is not part of Portugal’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Fernandes spent the last two seasons in the Premier League with Southampton and West Ham, although both clubs were relegated to the Championship during his time.
Tottenham beat off competition from Manchester United to secure the midfielder’s signature, with reports indicating that Spurs agreed to pay the full £85 million fee without performance-related add-ons.
Fernandes becomes the latest addition to Tottenham’s squad this summer, following the arrivals of goalkeeper Martin Dubravka and defenders Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson, and Jan Paul van Hecke.
