Minister of Works, David Umahi, says the Federal Government is deploying strategic road infrastructure as part of President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to tackle insecurity and strengthen military operations across the country.
Umahi stated this during the flag-off of the rehabilitation of the Bama-Banki and Dikwa-Gamboru-Ngala roads in Borno State.
He said the projects are designed to reconnect communities, stimulate economic activities and improve access for security agencies operating in the North-East.
The minister noted that the road corridors will also enhance connectivity to neighbouring Chad and Cameroon, boosting cross-border trade and regional integration.
According to him, the current administration has revived several long-abandoned strategic road projects, including sections of the Kano-Maiduguri Highway and other key federal roads.
Representing President Bola Tinubu at the event, Vice President Kashim Shettima described the projects as critical national infrastructure, stressing that poor road networks also pose security challenges by limiting the movement of security personnel.
Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, said the roads would accelerate the state’s recovery from insurgency by reconnecting communities, improving access to markets and essential services, and restoring normal economic activities.
President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, said the company is currently constructing about 12 road projects across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, covering more than 1,000 kilometres at a cost exceeding three trillion naira, and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s infrastructure agenda.
