The Nigerian Defence Academy has charged Army cadets to place national interest above personal gain, uphold discipline and maintain professionalism as they prepare to assume junior leadership responsibilities in the Nigerian Armed Forces.
The charge was given during a social night luncheon organised for cadets of the 73 Regular Course and Short Service Course 49, following the academy’s final outdoor military training exercise.
The cadets underwent practical exercises including navigation, abseiling, rappelling and watermanship, designed to test their leadership competence, endurance, teamwork and understanding of tactical manoeuvres.
Commander of the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps, Major General Godwin Mutkut, says the exercise has prepared the cadets to function effectively as junior leaders in Nigeria’s contemporary security environment.
He says the Nigerian Army remains focused on producing professionally trained, adaptable and resilient officers capable of responding effectively to evolving security threats.
Major General Mutkut also urged the cadets to remain mentally and physically prepared for their future responsibilities, particularly as they could be deployed to various theatres of operation within and outside the country.
He stressed the importance of physical fitness, mental alertness, discipline and stamina, noting that their effectiveness in the field would depend not only on tactical knowledge but also on their attitude and commitment to the military profession.
Exercise Camp Highland is the final outdoor exercise for cadets of the Nigerian Defence Academy and is designed to consolidate their military training, character development and academic preparation ahead of their transition into junior leadership positions.
