President Bola Tinubu says his administration remains committed to defeating banditry and kidnapping, insisting that the Federal Government will not negotiate with criminals or pay ransom.
The President stated this while receiving a delegation of Oyo State traditional rulers led by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, in Abuja.
Tinubu said the abductors of schoolchildren and teachers from Oriire, Oyo State, demanded ransom and the release of jailed gang members, but the Federal Government rejected the demands.
The President also explained that the expansion of the Nigerian Army from eight to 12 divisions is a direct response to the country’s security challenges.
He said the expansion is designed to improve response time and provide security forces with additional manpower and operational reach to tackle terrorism, banditry and kidnapping across the country.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the Olubadan of Ibadanland and Chairman of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, said the visit was to appreciate President Tinubu and the Armed Forces for their efforts in securing the release of the Oriire kidnap victims.
