The Peoples Democratic Party has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress administration of creating what it described as a legacy of unsafe schools and worsening insecurity across the country.
In a statement issued by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the opposition party condemned the recent killing and abduction of school teachers and pupils in Oyo State.
The party described the killing of a mathematics teacher abducted during attacks on three schools in Oyo State as another sign of what it called the Federal Government’s helplessness in tackling insecurity.
According to the PDP, insecurity under the current administration has become a daily reality for Nigerians.
“Under this administration, insecurity is no longer a crisis in Nigeria, it is now the lived reality of our citizens,” the statement said.
The party further alleged that kidnappings and attacks have fuelled a growing ransom economy that has placed financial and emotional burdens on ordinary Nigerians.
The PDP expressed sympathy to the families of victims affected by the recent attacks and urged the government to move beyond what it described as “performative assurances” by implementing practical and sustained security measures.
It warned that repeated attacks on schools pose a serious threat to Nigeria’s educational future, particularly as the country already faces one of the highest out-of-school children populations globally.
“The targeting of schools is not incidental. It is a direct assault on Nigeria’s future,” the party stated.
The opposition party also criticised the government’s handling of school abductions, arguing that such incidents had become increasingly common under the APC administration.
The PDP called on President Bola Tinubu to channel greater effort toward strengthening national security architecture and protecting lives across the country.
The party advocated a broader security strategy involving political will, institutional coordination and community engagement to effectively tackle insecurity nationwide.
