The Delta State Government has approved the rehabilitation and reconstruction of primary and secondary schools across the state as part of efforts to improve teaching and learning conditions.
The approval was among decisions reached at the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Commissioner for Works, Rural Roads and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, said the intervention will provide safer and more conducive environments for pupils, students and teachers.
The Council also approved the construction of 12 additional duplexes for Permanent Secretaries and more residential quarters for members of the Delta State House of Assembly following the increase in constituencies from 29 to 38.
Aniagwu also announced approval for 92 residential quarters for medical personnel at the Osubi Specialist Hospital, comprising 24 units for resident doctors and 68 for house officers.
Other projects approved include the reconstruction of the Old Oviorie-Agbarho-Eku Road, completion of the storm drainage project around the Specialist Hospital in Asaba and reconstruction of internal roads at Warri Central Hospital.
The State Executive Council also approved the termination of some contracts over poor performance, following recommendations from the State Tenders Board.
The affected projects include the Okerenkoko Township Road, Adjei Street and School Road in Warri South, and the permanent office complex for the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission.
The government says fresh procurement processes will be initiated to re-award the projects to contractors with the capacity to deliver them.
