Cristiano Ronaldo made FIFA World Cup history by becoming the first player ever to score in six different World Cup tournaments, helping Portugal to a 5-0 victory over Uzbekistan on Tuesday.
The 41-year-old captain scored twice in the emphatic win, further extending his remarkable goalscoring record on football’s biggest stage. His goals also made him the second-oldest player to score at a FIFA World Cup.
The historic achievement adds another milestone to Ronaldo’s illustrious career, having now found the net in six successive World Cup editions.
Elsewhere, England were unable to replicate the attacking display that saw them defeat Croatia in their opening match as they were held to a goalless draw by Ghana at the Boston Stadium.
Meanwhile, Croatia kept their qualification hopes alive with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Panama.
In another Group encounter, Colombia secured a place in the Round of 32 after edging the Democratic Republic of the Congo 1-0 in a closely contested match.
The latest round of fixtures has further intensified the race for qualification as teams battle for places in the knockout stages of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
