Governor of the , , has been honoured with the Central Bank of the Year Award at the Central Banking Awards ceremony held in London.

Receiving the award, Cardoso expressed gratitude to the organisers and judges for the recognition, describing the honour as a reflection of the collective efforts of the board, management, and staff of the apex bank.

He dedicated the award to the institution’s workforce, commending their professionalism, dedication, and commitment to strengthening the country’s monetary and financial systems.

According to the CBN governor, the recognition underscores the bank’s ongoing reforms aimed at restoring confidence, strengthening policy credibility, and enhancing economic stability.

Cardoso noted that central banks across the world have faced significant economic challenges in recent years, adding that Nigeria has also had to navigate complex economic pressures through difficult but necessary policy decisions.

He highlighted key reforms undertaken by the CBN, including efforts to address inflationary pressures, reforms in the foreign exchange market, and investments in digital and financial infrastructure to support long-term economic growth.

The governor also pointed to notable achievements recorded during the reform period, including Nigeria’s removal from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list and the successful recapitalisation of the banking sector.

While acknowledging that more work remains to be done, Cardoso expressed confidence in the progress made so far and reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to preserving monetary stability, strengthening financial systems, and fulfilling its mandate with integrity and accountability.

He said the award serves as encouragement for the CBN to continue pursuing reforms that support economic recovery and sustainable growth.

The recognition comes at a time when monetary and financial sector reforms remain central to Nigeria’s economic agenda.
