The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has called on the Federal Government to publish a detailed and independently verifiable account of the funds realised from the removal of fuel subsidy since May 2023.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, the opposition party said the demand was prompted by worsening economic hardship, rising cost of living, deteriorating public infrastructure and increasing poverty despite what it described as over ₦20 trillion realised from subsidy removal.

The party argued that Nigerians have continued to bear the burden of higher fuel prices, increased transportation costs, soaring food prices, expensive healthcare, education and housing, without clear evidence of how the subsidy savings have been utilised.

APM also alleged that there has been inadequate transparency regarding the management of the funds and insisted that claims of investments in critical sectors must be supported with verifiable figures and measurable outcomes.

The party therefore urged the Federal Government to release a comprehensive public report detailing the total subsidy savings, how the funds have been spent, the beneficiaries of various interventions and the impact of the expenditures on the lives of Nigerians.
