The Nigeria Police Force says it is strengthening collaboration between Akwa Ibom and Cross River States to improve security along waterways and curb maritime attacks.
Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 6 Headquarters, Calabar, AIG Rashid Afegua, stated this during a familiarisation visit to the Akwa Ibom State Police Command Headquarters in Ikot Akpan Abia.
Afegua says the visit aligns with the Inspector General of Police’s vision for joint policing and effective coordination of the country’s security architecture.
He urged officers and men of the Command to remain proactive, professional and committed to their duties while avoiding unethical conduct, particularly as the 2027 General Elections approach.
The AIG says his office, working with the Commissioners of Police in Akwa Ibom and Cross River States, is implementing Operation VELVET to tackle criminal activities along waterways linking the two states.
Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Azare, says the visit will further strengthen professionalism and provide guidance on proactive crime prevention, community partnership and inter-agency collaboration.
The visit marks Afegua’s first official visit to the Akwa Ibom State Police Command since assuming office in August 2026.
