Severe flooding has hit Cambodia’s north-western Battambang province following days of heavy rainfall, affecting more than 21,000 families and flooding homes, roads and farmland.
The ASEAN Disaster Information Network, citing provincial disaster authorities, says all 14 cities and districts in Battambang had been affected by flooding as of September 27.
Authorities say 21,807 families have been affected, while 856 families have been evacuated from their homes.
More than 35,600 hectares of rice fields have also been flooded, raising concerns over crops and the livelihoods of affected communities.
Some residents have described the flooding as the worst they have experienced in decades, with tractors being used to move through flooded roads and reach homes and farms.
Authorities say evacuation and monitoring operations are continuing across affected communities.
Residents are also appealing for food and other essential supplies as floodwaters continue to affect homes, roads and agricultural areas.
