The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the welfare, remuneration and pension concerns of Nigeria’s military veterans.
Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, retired, gave the assurance during a courtesy visit by representatives of military veterans to the Ministry of Defence in Abuja.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Richard Pheelangwah, the Minister acknowledged the sacrifices and service of military veterans, stressing that their welfare remains a priority of the government.
He says concerns over wage and pension adjustments are receiving urgent attention, with relevant military, pension and financial authorities being engaged to find a fair and sustainable resolution.
The Minister appealed for calm, patience and continued dialogue, noting that adjustments to veterans’ entitlements must be properly calculated, adequately funded and implemented in line with existing regulations and approvals.
He assured the veterans that the Ministry will continue engaging their representatives and provide updates as efforts to resolve the outstanding concerns progress.
The Defence Ministry says the Federal Government remains committed to ensuring that the sacrifices of military veterans are recognised through sustained attention to their welfare and legitimate entitlements.
