A forum of Yoruba lawyers, under the aegis of Egbe Amofin Oodua, has called for the postponement of the Nigerian Bar Association presidential election, citing concerns over the transparency and credibility of the electoral process.
The group says delaying the election would allow the implementation of agreed reforms, including the use of National Identification Number linked phone numbers for voter authentication instead of email verification.
Chairman of the forum’s Governing Council, Isiaka Olagunju, SAN, accused the NBA leadership of abandoning earlier agreements reached with stakeholders and warned that proceeding with the election could undermine confidence in the process.
He also alleged that the current electronic voting system remains vulnerable to manipulation and called for broader reforms to guarantee a free, fair and credible election.
The forum insists its demand is aimed at protecting the integrity of the legal profession rather than supporting any particular candidate.
