Stakeholders in Nigeria’s education sector have called for deliberate policies to ensure that the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education promotes inclusion rather than widening existing inequalities.
The call was made during a national engagement in Abuja, where policymakers, academics, students and development partners examined how AI can expand access to higher education while addressing long-standing challenges in the sector.
Participants noted that while artificial intelligence is transforming teaching, learning and research globally, unequal access to digital infrastructure and technology could leave many students behind if not properly addressed.
They stressed the need for inclusive policies and investments that will enable all learners, regardless of background, to benefit from emerging technologies.
The event also featured the unveiling of a publication containing contributions from more than one hundred authors, which organisers said would support research and inform policy discussions on the future of higher education in Nigeria.
