Igbo Community Backs Okpebholo Over Commissioner Nomination

The Igbo Community Union in Edo State has commended Governor Monday Okpebholo for nominating Hon. Anayochukwu Martin Oli as commissioner-designate, describing the move as a milestone in inclusive governance and recognition of the Igbo community’s contributions to the development of Edo State.

Speaking at a press briefing in Benin City, the President of the union, Chief Sir Samson Awiaka, said the nomination was unprecedented in the history of the old Midwest, Bendel and Edo State, adding that it reflected the governor’s commitment to fairness, unity and broad-based participation in governance.

The union also pledged its support for the Okpebholo administration, assuring that the commissioner-designate would justify the confidence reposed in him.

The union’s Publicity Secretary, Nze Nnamdi Duruoha, described the nomination as the first of its kind in more than a century of the Igbo community’s presence in Edo State.

Also speaking, the Igbo Woman Leader, Okechuku Victoria, praised Governor Okpebholo’s inclusive leadership and pledged the support of Igbo women across the state.

Hon. Anayochukwu Martin Oli’s nomination is currently before the Edo State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation as Governor Okpebholo continues to promote inclusive representation in his administration.
