Troops of Sector 2, 135 Special Forces Battalion under Operation Hadin Kai have dismantled a JAS/ISWAP terrorists’ roadblock along the Buratai-Kamuya Road in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, rescuing 53 civilians and recovering eight vehicles.
The operation was carried out on Wednesday after troops deployed at Dutse Kura detected the terrorists blocking the highway through surveillance cameras. A Quick Reaction Force was immediately mobilised to the scene and pursued the insurgents towards the Mangari-Dora axis.
The troops engaged the terrorists in a gun battle, forcing them to flee and abandon their captives.
According to a statement by the Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, the troops subsequently dominated the area and conducted further searches, although no additional contact was made with the fleeing insurgents.
The rescued civilians, recovered vehicles and other properties were safely evacuated to Buratai town, where the victims are undergoing documentation and medical evaluation.
The Theatre Command commended the professionalism and swift response of the troops and urged residents within the Joint Operations Area to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely information on suspicious movements and activities.
The military added that the security situation in the area remains calm as troops maintain an aggressive posture and sustained dominance across the general area.
