The military says more than 40 ISWAP fighters, including a prominent commander, have been killed in an air strike on a terrorist enclave at Badu Village, south of Gudumbali in Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State.
The Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, says the operation followed intelligence that ISWAP fighters were gathering in the area to launch coordinated attacks on troops within Sector 3.
According to the military, aerial surveillance identified movements around suspected hideouts and logistics facilities before a precision strike was carried out on a building occupied by the fighters.
Preliminary assessment indicates that more than 40 fighters, including a prominent ISWAP commander, were killed in the operation.
The military says two vehicles and about 20 motorcycles used for mobility, logistics and operations were also destroyed.
It says intelligence identified the fighters as members of ISWAP’s Murabitun element, described as a specialised mobile unit responsible for patrols, coordinating attacks and sustaining operations in the area.
The military says further assessment is ongoing to determine the full impact of the operation, while Operation Hadin Kai will continue efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and strengthen security across the North East.
