Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following the Senate’s passage of the constitutional amendment bill seeking to establish state police.
The Senate on Wednesday approved all 26 clauses of the bill in the Committee of the Whole, marking a major shift in Nigeria’s security framework.
In a statement personally signed by him, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the approval as a major step toward strengthening security and addressing terrorism and other criminal activities across the country.
He noted that the establishment of state police reflects President Tinubu’s long-standing advocacy for true federalism, dating back to his tenure as Governor of Lagos State between 1999 and 2007.
Sanwo-Olu also commended the Senate for what he described as a historic decision and urged state Houses of Assembly to support the bill to ensure its final passage and eventual implementation.
