The Nigeria Police Force has challenged social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, to provide evidence supporting his allegation that some police officers at checkpoints share information about travellers with kidnappers.
VeryDarkMan made the allegation at the ongoing Nigerian Bar Association Conference in Port Harcourt, claiming that some officers identify wealthy travellers and pass details of their movements to kidnappers to facilitate abductions for ransom.
In a statement, Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, described the allegation as serious but unsubstantiated, stressing that claims of such magnitude require credible evidence.
The Police say any officer found to have compromised their duty will face disciplinary and legal action, but cautioned against generalising allegations of misconduct against the entire Force.
The Force has invited VeryDarkMan to submit any evidence in his possession, assuring that such information will be investigated thoroughly and with urgency.
