The presidential candidate of the Allied People’s Movement, APM, Seyi Makinde, has promised to address Nigeria’s challenges at home, saying his administration would focus on fixing the country rather than travelling abroad to seek solutions.
Makinde spoke in Enugu during the Southeast town hall meeting of the Makinde-Daura 2027 presidential campaign. He also announced that the party’s manifesto would be unveiled on November 4, 2026.
Reacting to a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, that President Bola Tinubu was travelling to Saudi Arabia to pray for Nigeria, Makinde said prayers could be answered within the country.
He called on leaders to be honest with Nigerians about the state of the nation, adding that his administration would focus on resetting the economy, security architecture, education system and socio-political environment.
Makinde also questioned the country’s continued borrowing, despite what he described as sufficient external reserves and revenue generation. He promised to tackle poverty, create opportunities and establish an environment where businesses could thrive.
The presidential candidate further announced a partnership with Skill Reset Nigeria to train one million young Nigerians in skills that would improve their employment prospects.
His running mate, Lawal Daura, said the party was determined to address the country’s challenges and end the suffering of Nigerians, with public support.
Meanwhile, the Southeast Zonal Director of the campaign organisation, Daniel Obiechima, said the turnout at the meeting demonstrated public support for the Makinde-Daura ticket ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
