The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi, has challenged President Bola Tinubu to account for his administration’s performance and explain how borrowed funds and government revenue have been spent before seeking re-election in 2027.
Obi made the call in Enugu during the Obi-Kwankwaso Town Hall Meeting, attended by the party’s vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
He urged Tinubu to travel across the country and explain what his administration had achieved with billions of dollars borrowed and revenue generated since assuming office.
Obi said Nigerians deserved to assess the president’s record before deciding whether to give him another term.
He also highlighted hunger, unemployment and insecurity as major challenges facing the country, promising that an NDC administration would prioritise national unity, security, employment, healthcare and accountability in the management of public funds.
The former Anambra State governor urged Nigerians to support candidates based on their qualifications and commitment to national development rather than ethnic considerations. He also called on supporters to mobilise voters ahead of the 2027 general election.
Meanwhile, former presidential adviser, Pat Utomi, said Nigeria could become one of the best places to live if genuine change was achieved. He urged Nigerians to turn out in large numbers, vote and defend their votes.
Senator representing Anambra Central, Victor Umeh, also urged supporters to mobilise for the election, expressing confidence in the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket and its appeal across the country.
