Iran is seeking to strengthen its engagement with West Africa following the accreditation of its ambassador to Nigeria, Gholamreza Mahdavi Raja, to the Economic Community of West African States.
Raja presented his Letters of Credence to ECOWAS Commission President Omar Alieu Touray at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja. (ECOWAS)
The engagement focused on strengthening relations and expanding cooperation between Iran, ECOWAS and countries across the West African region.
ECOWAS says stronger international partnerships remain important to advancing peace and security, sustainable economic development and regional integration.
The Iranian ambassador, alongside other newly accredited diplomats, pledged closer collaboration with the regional bloc and continued support for initiatives promoting security, humanitarian assistance and development.
