Former Canadian Member of Parliament Inky Mark has been arrested after police recovered 439 firearms, an antique cannon, ammunition and more than 300,000 Canadian dollars in cash during a firearms trafficking investigation.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said the weapons were seized from Mark’s property in Manitoba following a search linked to alleged trafficking of prohibited firearms.
The 78 year old faces multiple firearms-related charges, including firearms trafficking, possession of prohibited devices and unsafe storage of weapons.
Police said the investigation began after authorities in the United States filed firearms charges against another individual, leading investigators to weapons allegedly purchased by Mark that were not lawfully transferred.
Mark has appeared in court and was released on conditions pending further legal proceedings. He served in Canada’s House of Commons from 1997 to 2010 after previously serving as mayor of Dauphin.
