Gunmen have abducted two worshippers after attacking St. Joseph Catholic Church in Inoyi, Affa Community, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The attack occurred during Sunday service when the assailants stormed the church and initially abducted three members of the congregation.
The Enugu State Police Command said a joint security team comprising police operatives, Forest Guards and members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group immediately launched a pursuit, forcing the gunmen to abandon one of the victims, who was rescued unharmed.
The attackers, however, escaped with the remaining two victims.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said the Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, has directed the Area Commander in Oji-River and the Head of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit to intensify rescue operations and deploy all available operational assets to secure the release of the victims and apprehend the suspects.

The Police Command also appealed to residents to remain calm and provide credible information to support ongoing efforts to rescue the abducted worshippers and bring the perpetrators to justice.
