American singer and actress Ariana Grande has criticised the White House over the use of her music in a social media post promoting immigration enforcement actions, demanding that her songs not be associated with such content.
The controversy arose after the White House shared a video on TikTok featuring federal agents carrying out arrests and detentions. The video used Grande’s 2024 song, Bye, as its soundtrack.
Reacting to the post, Grande publicly objected to the use of her music, describing the content as inappropriate and urging the White House to stop associating her work with immigration enforcement campaigns.
According to reports, representatives of the Grammy Award-winning singer have also moved to have the song removed from the video.
The White House responded to the criticism, defending its immigration policies and maintaining that its actions were aimed at addressing criminal activity and protecting citizens.
Grande has previously been critical of former U.S. President and his administration’s policies. The latest dispute adds to a growing list of artists who have objected to the use of their music in political campaigns, government messaging, or content linked to controversial public policies.
The White House and members of its communications team have frequently used popular music in social media content highlighting government policies, military operations, and law enforcement activities.
The incident has reignited discussions about the use of copyrighted music in political and government-related messaging, as well as the rights of artists to control how their work is used in public communications.
